Today I'm reading Romans 4:16-21, but especially verse 16, "This is why the fulfillment of God’s promise depends entirely on trusting God and his way, and then simply embracing him and what he does. God’s promise arrives as pure gift. That’s the only way everyone can be sure to get in on it, those who keep the religious traditions and those who have never heard of them. For Abraham is father of us all. He is not our racial father—that’s reading the story backward. He is our faith father."

TRUST - To Rely Upon Sure Things. That's Corrie ten Boom's definition of trust. As a survivor of the Nazi death camps she experienced the worst this world could throw at anyone: the deaths of her family members, physical deprivation, pain, hunger, suffering. And somehow she was able to hold on to faith - or, she'd say, faith held on to her. Paul uses Abraham as the prime example of a man who held onto faith - or faith held on to him. Go back and read his story if you're not familiar with it.

But for today = here are some good quotes from Corrie to encourage you. And read her book "The Hiding Place." It could change your life.

“Worry does not empty tomorrow of its sorrow, it empties today of its strength.”

“Never be afraid to trust an unknown future to a known God.”

“This is what the past is for! Every experience God gives us, every person He puts in our lives is the perfect preparation for the future that only He can see.”

“Hold everything in your hands lightly, otherwise it hurts when God pries your fingers open.”

“If you look at the world, you'll be distressed. If you look within, you'll be depressed. If you look at God you'll be at rest.”

“Worrying is carrying tomorrow's load with today's strength- carrying two days at once. It is moving into tomorrow ahead of time. Worrying doesn't empty tomorrow of its sorrow, it empties today of its strength.”

“Do you know what hurts so very much? It's love. Love is the strongest force in the world, and when it is blocked that means pain. There are two things we can do when this happens. We can kill that love so that it stops hurting. But then of course part of us dies, too. Or we can ask God to open up another route for that love to travel.”

“Trying to do the Lord's work in your own strength is the most confusing, exhausting, and tedious of all work. But when you are filled with the Holy Spirit, then the ministry of Jesus just flows out of you.”

“Don't bother to give God instructions; just report for duty.”

“There is no pit so deep, that God's love is not deeper still.”
