Remembering 2

Today I'm reading Philemon 1:4-7,
I always thank my God as I remember you in my prayers, because I hear about your love for all his holy people and your faith in the Lord Jesus. I pray that your partnership with us in the faith may be effective in deepening your understanding of every good thing we share for the sake of Christ. Your love has given me great joy and encouragement, because you, brother, have refreshed the hearts of the Lord’s people.

I have a mental list of people who have been influential in my spiritual life. It's good to remember those folks and the ways God used them to draw me closer to Himself. And there are probably a lot of folks who I don't remember who also poured some of their faith into me even when I wasn't aware of it, or when I wasn't able to receive it.

There was a Catholic priest at a high school student leadership conference I attended at Indiana University who actually had some pretty good answers for my pseudo-intellectual objections to Christianity. A Vietnam vet who volunteered with the youth group who shared how his faith got him through some horrific stuff. A Christian police officer who reached out to high school athletes with the Young Life club. The woman youth group leader who put up with my annoying sense of humor.

This fall I was excited to connect a college freshman from our church with the guy who was my high school youth director who is now a professor at her college.

And the list goes on...

Who do you remember as your influencers? Who nudged you toward the Lord? Who are your spiritual partners? Make a list and maybe, if you can, thank them this week. They are part of who you are in Christ, and that's a good thing.
